From my college business management days, we discussed ways to identify personality traits in ourselves so we could also identify traits in others. One system that stuck with me comes from Karl Jung. Of archetypes and shadow characteristics. I've taken a stab at breaking down my big personality markers so that it's easier to not be overwhelmed. These archetypes form the basic foundations for the collections in the shop.
The explorer archetype deals with freedom. This side of myself is technical but free spirited. Agile and joyous. Flight has been a dream of humanity for as long as time, and I had to feel it. My favorite part about flying is that you immediately change your perspective. You are reminded that the odd pieces of the world all fit together from above. She wants to understand.
The pieces in this collection deal with flight, freedom, and the pursuit of doing exactly what people tell you you cannot do. There are the instruments of flight- wings and feather. Many of the pieces are named after aviation pioneers and innovators. Women who used all the tools in their toolbox to shatter expectations.
"Don't fence me in."
The creator archetype deals with innovation, mastery and understanding. I have to know. What does that look like melted. What happens when I hit that with a hammer. I have 3 college degrees, but no matter which way I run, I will be a silversmith for life. Through the ups and downs I have gone through, the ability to hammer, beat and burn material to make something beautiful has been a wonderful teacher and companion. My work has bold lines and strong elements but balanced with gentle inspiration. The metal has been patient with me. This a place for me to understand hot things that will burn you if left unattended. Like sadness, violence and anger. The process of transmutation of radical self love happens for me in the crucible. She wants to share.
The pieces in this collection are going to be more unique. I have more metalsmithing capabilities than I sometimes use, but don't want them to get old and dusty and also want to learn new ones. This is where a funky claw setting, or a new technique will appear. Pushing those comforting limits of what I know still can give me jitters- what if I fail?! Then I look at my pile of failures and they are all practices for when those magical pieces come along that need practiced skill and technical execution. I'll be ready. Also found in this collection will be metal staples that have become hallmarks of my brand journey.
"If it can be imagined, it can be created"
The everyman archetype makes us want to connect with people. It is a genuine comfort, a stable and nurturing connection. This for me means Montana, my earth and water. But I think wherever you are from, we can connect on home. She laughs alot.
The pieces of this collection will have an earthy, comforting feel. I want them to feel warm when you wear them.
"All women and men are created equal"
This is a combination archetype: the magician and the outlaw. These two are concerned with liberation. The lessons learned in this sphere usually leave a mark. I can be daring, resilient and witty. This is where my power comes from. This part of me thinks things are wild and possible. She is trouble.
There is a revolution going on. A time when the roles women play will now be defined by themselves more so than any generation that has come before. This is all of the things: powerful, terrifying, painful, mighty and so important. This is my homage to the pioneers that have inspired me, my support of those right now fighting the good fight, and my hopes that this progress has a chance to save the world. These pieces have fire in them, maybe some heart's blood. They will protect and be strength, hopefully becoming old friends that can be depended upon.
"Rules are meant to be broken. It could happen"
The sage archetype deals with empathy and the warmth of the soul. For me this is a deep low place that I don't get to see or be in touch with very often outright, but it is my greatest source of beauty. It is curious, full of deep knowledge, and seeking illumination on my spiritual journey. This is why I love reading, some words are an immediate glimpse into this place, and their reminder that this too shall pass. She is calm.
'Maybe our favorite quotations say more about us than about the stories and people we are quoting'. The pieces in this collection are my space to feel connected to the ideas and words that keep me dreaming. Some will be soft, humorous, feisty, and thoughtful. All of them are things that I want remembered.
"The truth will set you free"
